About the artist:
Wendy grew up drawing cartoon characters and making comic books. This early interest in drawing led to study at Arizona State University with a focus on all facets of art including drawing, painting, metal sculpture, ceramics and art history, but, oddly, enough, no course work in wood carving. Fresh out of college with a degree in Studio Art, Wendy joined her family in taking over a fine craft gallery on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Wendy’s father Lance, an accomplished wood carver, had been selling his wildlife carvings to the gallery for nearly twenty years.
Although the gallery has been a success, it was not profitable enough to support Wendy, her father and siblings. Wendy and Lance moved to New Jersey in 2000 where Wendy began a six-year apprenticeship with her father. Those were the most important years of Wendy’s life and she will be forever grateful to her father for giving her his greatest gift. In 2005 Wendy moved to Vermont to establish her own wildlife studio. Nearly all Wendy’s pieces are carved from reclaimed chestnut which complements the natural, lifelike feel of her carvings.
Hand-crafted in the U.S.A.
