About the artist

One of the most successful craft artists in the country, David Roy specializes in kinetic wall sculptures using electric, spring and weight driven mechanisms. Sculptures are individually handcrafted and are either one-of-a-kind or created in signed and numbered limited editions. Mechanics and motion have always fascinated David ... during college he studied physics, engineering and chemistry to further his understanding of how things worked. David graduated with a degree in physics from Boston University in 1974. In 1975, he and his wife Marji started “Wood That Works” as David became a full time sculptor and inventor. Over the intervening years, David has designed and produced dozens of limited edition kinetic sculptures, each year retiring older designs as new designs are made available.
